RSV (Respiratory Syncytial Virus) affects the airways and lungs and spreads all year round. Symptoms may be cold-like but can also include wheeziness or shortness of breath and for older adults, can lead to severe lung infections like pneumonia or other life-threatening conditions. In young babies RSV can cause a lung infection called bronchiolitis.

You are eligible for the RSV vaccine if:

  • you are aged 75 to 79
  • you are pregnant – the vaccine is recommended during every pregnancy (from 28 weeks onwards) to help protect your baby after they’re born

If you turned 80 after 1 September 2024, you are eligible for the RSV vaccine until 31 August 2025.

You are not eligible for the RSV vaccine if you turned 80 on or before 1 September 2024.

Eligibility is determined by the Government with advice from the Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation.

Some pharmacies are providing the RSV vaccine privately at a cost of £230+

If you are eligible please telephone the surgery on 01773 304700 and we can arrange an appointment for you or add you to the list for our next available clinic.
